The Pamplemousses Botanical Garden, officially known as Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Botanical Garden, is a lush and historic garden located near Port Louis in Mauritius. Established in 1770, it is one of the oldest botanical gardens in the Southern Hemisphere and covers an area of about 37 hectares. The garden is renowned for its diverse collection of tropical and subtropical plants, including an impressive array of indigenous and exotic species.
Among its highlights are the giant Victoria amazonica water lilies, whose large, round leaves can grow up to 2.5 meters in diameter. The garden also features a variety of palm trees, including the rare Talipot palm, which flowers only once every 30 to 80 years.
