Travel to Punakha, the ancient capital, crossing the picturesque Dochula Pass, renowned for its panoramic views of the Eastern Himalayas. In Punakha, visit the majestic Punakha Dzong, strategically situated at the confluence of two rivers. Continue to Wangduephodrang, known for its unique bamboo products and stone carvings.

Journey back to Paro, home to the famed Taktsang Monastery, also known as the Tiger’s Nest, perched dramatically on a cliffside. Explore the National Museum housed in Ta Dzong and the historic Rinpung Dzong. 01 Arrive Paro by Druk Air

Experience one of the most spectacular mountain flights with Druk Air, offering mesmerizing views along the Himalayan range from Kathmandu or over the foothills. Upon arrival at Paro airport, you will be greeted by our representative and transferred to Thimphu, the modern capital town of Bhutan. Overnight stay at a hotel in Thimphu.

02 Thimphu to Punakha (75 km, 3 hours)

After breakfast, explore the Thimphu valley. Visit Trashichhoedzong, a beautiful medieval fortress/monastery housing most of the Government's offices and the King's throne room. It also serves as the summer residence of the Je Khenpo, the Chief Abbot.

Next, visit the National Library, home to a vast collection of ancient Buddhist texts and manuscripts. Proceed to the Arts & Crafts School, renowned for traditional thangkha paintings, where you can see students creating intricate designs on cloth.

Later, visit the Textile and Folk Heritage Museums, which provide a fascinating insight into Bhutanese material culture and living traditions. After lunch, explore the Handicrafts Emporium, showcasing a wide range of beautifully hand-woven and crafted products. Conclude your Thimphu tour with a visit to the Memorial Chorten, built in memory of Bhutan's third king, regarded as the Father of modern Bhutan.

In the late afternoon, drive to Punakha via Dochula Pass (3,080m). Overnight stay at a hotel in Punakha.

03 Thimphu to Punakha (75 Km, 3 Hours)

After breakfast, drive to Punakha, stopping briefly at Dochula Pass (3,080m) to take in the views and admire the chorten, mani wall, and prayer flags. If the skies are clear, you can see the following peaks: Masagang (7,158m), Tsendagang (6,960m), Terigang (7,060m), Jejegangphugang (7,158m), Kangphugang (7,170m), Zongphugang (7,060m), and Gangkar Puensum, the highest peak in Bhutan at 7,497m.

Visit Punakha Dzong, strategically built at the junction of the Pho Chhu and Mo Chhu rivers in 1637 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal. This Dzong has played an important role in Bhutan’s history and has been fully restored after several catastrophes.

Drive to Wangduephodrang to visit the Dzong and local market, known for bamboo products, slate, and stone carvings.

04 Punakha to Paro (125 Km, 4 Hours)

After breakfast, drive to Paro, stopping en route to visit Simtokha Dzong, the oldest fortress in the Kingdom, built in 1627. It now houses the School for Buddhist Studies.

In the afternoon, visit Ta Dzong, the National Museum of the Kingdom, originally built as a watchtower in 1967. It houses a fascinating collection of art, artifacts, thangkha paintings, and Bhutan’s exquisite postage stamps. Then walk down a hillside trail to visit Rinpung Dzong, built in 1646 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal. The Dzong houses the monastic body of Paro, the office of the Dzongda (district administrative head), and the Thrimpon (judge) of Paro district.

05 Paro

After breakfast, drive north of Paro valley to the ruins of Drukgyel Dzong, from where the Bhutanese repelled several invasions by Tibetan armies. Nearby, visit a traditional Bhutanese farmhouse to gain insight into the local lifestyle.

Take an excursion to Taktsang Monastery, Bhutan’s most famous monastery. Legend has it that Guru Rinpoche arrived here on the back of a tigress and meditated in the monastery, hence its name, "Tiger’s Nest." The round trip to the monastery takes about 5 hours.

On the return journey to Paro, visit Kyichu Lhakhang, one of the oldest and most sacred shrines in the Kingdom.

06 Depart Paro

After breakfast, transfer to the airport for your flight to your onward destination.
