Experience one of the most spectacular mountain flights with Druk Air, offering mesmerizing views along the Himalayan range from Kathmandu or over the foothills. Upon arrival at Paro airport, you will be greeted by our representative and transferred to Thimphu, the modern capital town of Bhutan. Overnight stay at a hotel in Thimphu.
After breakfast, explore the Thimphu valley. Visit Trashichhoedzong, a beautiful medieval fortress/monastery housing most of the Government's offices and the King's throne room. It also serves as the summer residence of the Je Khenpo, the Chief Abbot.
Next, visit the National Library, home to a vast collection of ancient Buddhist texts and manuscripts. Proceed to the Arts & Crafts School, renowned for traditional thangkha paintings, where you can see students creating intricate designs on cloth.
Later, visit the Textile and Folk Heritage Museums, which provide a fascinating insight into Bhutanese material culture and living traditions. After lunch, explore the Handicrafts Emporium, showcasing a wide range of beautifully hand-woven and crafted products. Conclude your Thimphu tour with a visit to the Memorial Chorten, built in memory of Bhutan's third king, regarded as the Father of modern Bhutan.
In the late afternoon, drive to Punakha via Dochula Pass (3,080m). Overnight stay at a hotel in Punakha.
After breakfast, visit Punakha Dzong, strategically built at the junction of Pho Chhu and Mo Chhu rivers in 1637 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal. It has served as the religious and administrative center of the region and played a significant role in Bhutan's history. Despite being damaged by fires and an earthquake, the Dzong has been fully restored.
Then, drive to Wangduephodrang to visit the Dzong and local market, famous for bamboo products, slate, and stone carvings. After lunch, drive to Paro with a brief stop at Dochula Pass. En route, visit Simtokha Dzong, the oldest fortress in the Kingdom built in 1627, now housing the School for Buddhist Studies. Overnight stay at a hotel in Paro.
After breakfast, take an excursion to Taktsang Monastery, Bhutan's most famous monastery. Legend has it that Guru Rinpoche arrived here on the back of a tigress and meditated, hence the name “Tiger’s Nest.” The round trip to the monastery takes about 5 hours.
In the afternoon, visit Ta Dzong, the National Museum of Bhutan. Originally built as a watchtower, it has served as the National Museum since 1967, housing a fascinating collection of art, artifacts, thangkha paintings, and Bhutan’s exquisite postage stamps. Walk down the trail to visit Rinpung Dzong, which has a long and fascinating history. Overnight stay at a hotel in Paro.
After breakfast, drive to the airport for your flight to your onward destination.
